Popis 6 Month Geographic Information System (GIS) Developer Internship (LIVGD1910) PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE CONTINUING. The business was created by the team responsible for the Legible London wayfinding project – a global standard in wayfinding design and city movement and awareness. The company has advanced the field of legible mapping for urban and interior spaces, has developed a platform that supports walking and other soft mode travel and has a unique business model that will advance the mapping field significantly. The business is now expanding rapidly and is developing and implementing applications for cities, campuses and airports worldwide. Role As a GIS (Geographic Information System) developer the candidate will work as part of the company’s geospatial team on projects and ad-hoc tasks as required. The intern will be specifically tasked with modeling and developing GIS tools and applications, mainly for the purpose of geo-processing and data transfer. The successful candidate should be adept at building user-centric Web UI Interfaces or GUIs. As a company they strive to create beautiful as well as technically proficient mapping systems. To this end a typical day could mean collaborating with cartographers and designers in the morning and backend coders in the evening. An ability to be flexible in the working practices and an ability to work within multiple disciplines is essential. Location The company has offices in Bath and London. The intern placement will be based in Bath. Duration 6 months. Start date As soon as possible. Languages Upper-intermediate English knowledge. B2 minimum required. Tasks • Develop Python programs for data management, manipulation and transfer. • Write and build SQL scripts. • Build interfaces for data upload and attribution. • Contributing to the technical development of the GIS team through sharing ideas and innovations. Personal Skills Essential: • Experience with Python and SQL. • Knowledge of Quantum GIS (QGIS), or similar such as ArcMap, MapInfo, etc. • Knowledge of GDAL, GIT, RDBMS (PostgreSQL / PostGIS). • RESTful APIs. • JSON / GEOJSON / TOPOJSON. • An ability to work in a self-directed way. • An ability to pick up and evaluate new technologies. Desirable: • Linux operation. • OpenLayers3 / Leaflet. • Spatial Data Analysis. • Familiarity with AWS. • Java, Javascript, HTML5, CSS, XML, Elastic Search. • Familiarity with SVG.
