6 Month Product Design Engineer Internship

ESPA or European Student Placement Agency is a recruitment agency whose goal is to find high quality internships for European students and recent graduates in the UK. We work closely with our host companies to ensure the positions provide the candidates with a great experience, both professional and personal.
REQUIREMENTS: ESPA vacancies are open to all EU passport holders able to travel to the UK for an educational work placement, without the need for visa documents. You have to still be a student or have graduated in the last 12 months. Any student who is unsure of their visa situation should check with their university before applying.

This will be sourced and managed on your behalf by ESPA. These benefits have an approximate value of 700€-1000€ per month (depending on location).

The Host Company
The host company provides the life science and supply chain industries with qualified GDP compliant thermal protection. Their thermal covers are designed for protection of cold chain and controlled room temperature shipments, an essential component of logistics and supply chain management solutions. The company has an established range of solar materials, approved and used by many major pharmaceutical and forwarder companies, specifically designed to reduce temperature fluctuation during thermal peaks and troughs in the supply chain, the material is pioneering. Reducing thickness of materials (whilst maintaining performance) not only improves efficiency of transportation but also reduces required stock storage space.
Role
The host company is looking for the right candidate to be involved in their design projects. The intern will be actively involved in project developments including: management; planning and presentations to both internal and external groups. They work closely with cross functional teams within to support successful market implementation. A pro-active approach is expected to attendance of appropriate conferences and learning opportunities in order to remain in touch with trends in the industry.

Redditch is a town and local government district in north-east Worcestershire, approximately 24 km south of Birmingham. The company also has branches in the USA, France, Dubai, China, Australia and India.

Tasks
Use graphic design and applicable software packages to create visual product prototypes
Be involved in the research and develop process of new materials within the new product development process
Suggest and assist in the delivery of innovative solutions that break the current industry trends
Research and help develop scalable single and multi-use packaging solutions for key markets with a focus on thermal insulation, phase change materials, and reflectivity for thermal capability.
Demonstrate understanding and recommend appropriate use of prototyping, protocol development, performance testing, component validation, specification development and qualification testing.
Prepare tests using approved process, equipment and materials.
Demonstrate ability to cost packaging components and final products.
Ensure adherence to all procedures and processes set up within the quality system.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of the quality systems in use within the company.
Responsible for the upkeep of technical documentation.
Personal Skills
Background in Engineering or similar discipline.
Knowledge of the manufacturing or packaging environment.
Proficiency with Word, Excel and flow-charting software.
Knowledge of the thermal simulation software would be an advantage.
Excellent analytical, organizational, negotiation and communication skills. Must be able to operate in a fast-paced organization and handle multiple projects simultaneously within set timeframes.
Excellent verbal, written, maths and presentation skills, with great attention to detail.
